As Summer turns to Fall and the gorgeous colors grace us with their presence, we are adapting and so are our little companions. It is always good to keep in mind that a few seasonal adjustments need to be made for our precious Australian Labradoodles to ensure they continue to live their best life! The following care tips will guide you on how to best prepare your Australian Labradoodle for the approaching Fall, making it an enjoyable time for both of you.
Fall Activities
Fall Festivals are in full swing and it is a perfect time to take your Australian Labroodle on some family outings, but be sure to plan your outing in advance as some Fall Festivals don’t allow dogs. If a Fall Festival isn’t your thing, have some fun with leaf pile jumps, outdoor walks to enjoy the crisp air or fun sitting on the porch sipping your favorite Fall flavors. No matter what you are doing, your ALD will LOVE doing it with YOU!
Coat Maintenance
Australian Labradoodles have a unique coat that may require more attention as the weather changes. We recommend brushing your ALD every 3-4 days to prevent matting and remove dead fur or any debris they pick up during their Fall adventures. It also provides an opportunity to check for skin issues, ticks, or fleas hidden beneath their thick coats. Also remember to schedule your grooming sessions in advance as many groomers book up fast around the Holidays.
Allergies in the Fall
Be mindful of signs such as excessive scratching, sneezing, or watery eyes. Allergies can occur from Fall debris that may get trapped in the fur or from other allergens. If you suspect allergies, consult your vet for advice and potential treatments.
Keep Them Warm
While Australian Labradoodles have a plush coat, a drop in temperature can affect them. Consider getting a raincoat or doggy jacket for those extra chilly or rainy days, especially if your ALD has a shorter or trimmed coat. If your ALD has a longer coat, they may not need the extra insulation, but protection from the rain is always nice! Be sure to check for additional matting that may occur from the high rub points of the jacket.
