Steps to adopt a Doodle Roots Puppy
1. Fill out our online Puppy Application
The completion of our puppy application will help us get to know you and what you are looking for in your new family member. Once we receive the application, we will email you back to set up a phone call at your convenience. After we talk, you are welcome to place a deposit if we both feel a Doodle Roots puppy is for you . You can also choose not to pay the reservation fee and be placed on our wait list. We will contact you after selections are made and let you know available puppies to select from if you decide.
2. Place Reservation Fee
Your reservation fee will reserve your spot on our reservation list for a specific litter to adopt a Doodle Roots puppy. Families are put on the reservation list in order of when the $250 reservation fee is received. Reservation fees are put towards the total purchase price of your puppy. Deposits can be transferred to the next litter or we do offer a deposit refund if there is a circumstance that prevents you from getting a puppy. If your deposit has been moved to a second litter and you are still unable to find your newest family member, we will refund your deposit at that time. We want out families to be happy with the puppy they select and not feel obligated based on deposits.
3. Litter Announcement
Once the litter is born, we reach out to all families that placed a deposit on that litter. If at that time, you don’t wish to move forward your deposit will be moved to the next available litter. When you are moved to the next available litter, you will be placed below any family that had previously placed a deposit on that litter and is waiting for the litter to be born. If no family is on that litter, you will be first on that litter. We will move your deposit once (2 total litters) and if you are unable to find your newest family member in that litter, we will refund your deposit. If you are on the waitlist and there is a spot available, we will contact you to see if you are interested in the litter. If you are, we ask that you place the $250 deposit at that time. Once you are on a litter, we will send weekly email updates to our families on the litter as well as post plenty of pictures and videos on our Facebook and IG.
4. Remaining Balance
We do selections at 7 weeks of age and require final payment due after selections ($2,750). If you prefer to split the payment, you can pay in incremements of your choice with the final balance being due after selections, but prior to pickup.
5. Puppy Selection
At 7 weeks of age puppies have Vet checks and we begin our temperament testing. After Vet and temperament testing, we select a date for family picks. If we have more than one litter in the home, we will do virtual selections to keep down tracking of outside parasites and diseases to our puppies. We set up a Flickr album for families and you can also follow photo updates on our Facebook or Instagram page. This will allow you to interact with the puppies and with myself, to ensure a proper fit. We will assist each family in selecting your new puppy from your top 3 choices (should all 3 be available). Breeder reserves the right to first/second pick of litter for potential future breeders, and then top choices goes in order of deposits received, with our assistance. First deposit=first pick, 6th deposit=6th pick, etc.
6. Puppy Pick-Up!!
Between 8-9 weeks of age, the puppies will join their “forever” homes (please note we may request a puppy be held longer with us to aid in development and to ensure it will be the most successful when going to their new home – this is rare, but we do like families to know). We offer free delivery within 2 hours of our home and to local airports (Knoxville and Lexington. Cincinatti is a $50 charge). If no other litters are on the ground or females in heat, we are open to families coming here for pickup. However, we do feel delivery/meeting you is one of the best options. It takes the stress out of the car ride and the what to do situations. We can hand deliver them to you or meet you on your journey so the puppy has the least stress on its big day! We can also connect you with wonderful flight nanny services to fly your puppy in cabin to your local airport (additional fee). (Note: we are willing to hold a puppy a few days after official pickup at no extra charge. We do charge if over four days after litter pickup. The rate is $25 per day).
lIFETIME SUPPORT
We offer lifetime support and are always available via phone or email.
- Doodle Roots has the right to refund the reservation fee or deny placement if we feel any situation is not the best fit for the puppy.
- We do not place puppies in homes where there are two or more children under the age of 5.
- We prefer to place our puppies in homes where one adult is home and/or puppy is allowed to be taken to workplace.
- Doodle Roots reserves the right to the first and second pick of litter for our breeding or therapy dog program.
- Puppies are sold as companion pets only and are sold on a strict spay/neuter contract.
